In an incredibly unsettling image, Netflix currently has two movies grouped side-by-side on its site: a vibrant, fun children’s movie on the right…and an erotic Polish film on the left. Both of those films—The Nut Job and 365 Days—occupy the No. 2 and No. 1 spots (respectively) on today’s Top 10 Movies list.
But moving beyond the shocking juxtaposition of those two films, there’s a very interesting bit of trivia behind 365 Days’s continued reign at No. 1. Because every time you think the hype around this ridiculously campy movie will wear thin as it fades from the No. 1 spot…it comes roaring back with a vengeance.
Back on June 10, 365 Days made its surprising debut in the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 Movies list. And the film spent four days in that position before Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods took over. But just four days after that, on June 17, 365 Days reclaimed the top spot.
Then the movie lost that No. 1 position yet again to The Nut Job…only to take it right back today.
And while that might not seem that crazy, this doesn’t just mark the first time a movie ever managed to reclaim the No. 1 spot—it’s also the first time a movie has done it twice. Which tells us that the film has shown unprecedented longevity on the Netflix Top 10.
Basically: the hype surrounding 365 Days isn’t dying anytime soon.
As you pore through the past Daily Top 10 Movies lists, you’ll notice that several films have spent multiple days in the No. 1 spot. But only five have spent at least seven straight days in that top position: Spenser Confidential, The Wrong Missy, The Angry Birds Movie 2, Uncut Gems and 365 Days.
But, as we know, 365 Days is the only movie on Netflix to ever fade in and out of that top spot. So when you add up the total number of days 365 Days has spent at No. 1, only one other movie has found more success in that top spot: Spenser Confidential with 18 days.
Since that’s the case, then we can probably expect 365 Days to not only continue to hold that No. 1 spot on Netflix, but to also move up in the All-Time Top 10 Netflix rankings. As I detailed in this article, I’ve developed a numerical system that allows us to rank every single movie that’s ever appeared on the Top 10. And according to those numbers, 365 Days currently stands as the eighth-most-streamed movie on Netflix since the introduction of that Top 10 feature.
Here’s a complete ranking of the top ten Netflix movies since the Top 10 feature debuted. The points are based on where a movie ranked in the Top 10 each day and how many times that movie appeared in the Top 10:
- The Angry Birds Movie – 323 points
- Despicable Me – 305 points
- Spenser Confidential – 236 points
- The Wrong Missy – 187 points
- Angel Has Fallen – 182 points
- Extraction – 170 points
- The Willoughbys – 169 points
- 365 Days – 156 points
- Code 8- 129 points
- Space Jam – 126 points
Based on the film’s recent performance, I’d expect 365 Days to overtake The Willoughbys, Extraction, Angel Has Fallen and The Wrong Missy in a matter of days. That would place 365 Days in the No. 4 position amongst all movies.
