Channeling Herman Cain's Declaration

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator, (not a man, not an administration) with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. This was the best part of Herman Cain's speeches. He always started them this way and the crowds went wild. Like he was quoting something new, giving permission in a way to a ballroom full of humanity thirsting for the consent of the governed, knowing in their hearts that their government has become destructive.

Standing there listening to Cain recite the Declaration I was reminded of these forgotten words and it was thrilling. I somehow felt I was breaking some law, listening and thinking about the possibility of standing up for my rights. To hear the words that Governments are instuted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed was something I had forgotten. To know that I could, along with everyone at the Hyatt, alter or abolish the government if it became destructive of my liberty. This was a secret power I wanted to think about and turn over in my mind. It was empowering. It was a way out.

Herman Cain reminded me that the current administration, the EPA, the Czars, TSA, the courts, did not have the final say about my freedom and liberty, I did. It was mine and I could change it I if it became destructive of these ends.

No matter what happens to Herman Cain he will be a hard act to follow, just ask Rick Santorum. When he had to follow one of Cain's Declaration speeches in Orlando he quipped he was going to fire his campaign manager. Cain's message that day will not be forgotten. It rang loud and clear. You have the final say as a country. You are in charge.

Some Of My Best Friends Are Black

With friends like these....

In politics it is difficult to gauge real outrage and the outrage manufactuered for the cameras. The scandalous allegations made against Herman Cain certainly have illicited their fair share of real and hyped emotions. It is in situations the entertainment truly begins.

Enter lightning rod Ann Coulter.

In her defense of Mr. Cain, Ms. Coulter told Sean Hannity:

“I mean that’s why our blacks are so much better than their blacks. To become a black Republican you don’t just roll into it, you’re not just going with the flow. You have fought against probably your family, probably your neighbors, you have thought everything out. And that’s why we have very impressive blacks in our party.”

While we wouldn't want to question Ms. Coulter's experience as a "black", we would disuade her from appearing in public in whiteface talking about how "our blacks are better than their blacks". She should probably just stick to topics she is familiar with, like how "our women are less Shrill than their women".

Cain campaign cover-up?

Credit: Gage SkidmoreHaving vaulted to the front of the GOP herd, Herman Cain has had to endure the slings and arrows from both The Left and The Right over his credentials, his 9-9-9 flat tax plan and even his sincerity to actually want to be president. None of these attacks have slowed The Herminator down one bit. So seemingly on cue, allegations of sexual misconduct have suddenly come to light.

The Right was immediately reminded of Clarence Thomas, Anita Hill and the Coca Cola from Hell. The testimony from those hearings left this nation disgusted. Everyone involved was damaged and vilified. We here at DSMW still blush when recalling what Ms. Hill recounted was said to her. Not because of it's sexual nature, but because of it's juvenile intent and ham-fisted delivery. Someone had a some ill conceived ideas about dirty talk.

Mr. Cain and his people, however, have done a horrible job of crisis management in this situation, especially with the revelation that Politico.com sat on the story for ten days while awaiting a private response from the Cain camp. We would like to think there is strategy at play here, but right now it is impossible to fathom what plan would have a candidate mislead and then come clean about a cover up.

Citizen Cain, Don't Worry About Christie

This year I had the honor to be a part of the Florida Straw Poll. Being one of many Straw Poll voters representing Hillsborough County I saw firsthand the excitement Herman Cain can inspire.

Cain, along with the other GOP candidates, spoke to the 3,400 plus voters over a three day period. Each time Cain spoke his message went to the heart of each person. Whether or not you were for Cain, he was a consideration in your choice of candidate. Every GOP representative there from Perry to Ron Paul was formidable, but Herman had the crowd. When he took the stage it was riveting. Rick Santorum who had the bad luck to follow Cain quipped "he was going to fire his campaign manager for scheduling his speech after Cain's." No speaker can follow the excitement Herman Cain creates.

Herman Cain's rapid rise in business in 1970 starting with Coca-Cola in Atlanta. He  quickly moved to Pillsbury in Minnesota. In the the 80's Pillsbury tapped Herman to take over their stumbling hamburger business at the age of 36. In 1986 Pillsbury sent Cain to turn around Godfather's pizza. Cain bought Godfathers pizza from Pillsbury in 1988 and ran it until 1996 when he served as CEO of the National Restaurant Association. Herman Cain is all America. What he has Chris Christie can not match. Cain has not run a state, but we here in Florida have learned from Governor Rick Scott that this fact does not matter if you know how to run a successful business and Herman Cain has done that in spades. Cain has faced the unions, dealt with Bill Clinton's version of healthcare and more importantly he is not part of the Washington establishment. 

The Florida Straw Poll voters did not want to go out on a political limb, but they could not help themselves when they met Herman Cain. Watch out America you are about to meet the Herminator. -  DSMW

President Obama, The Race To The White House Is Not About Color

The Results of the Florida Presidential Straw Poll are as follows:

Herman Cain         -  37.1%                    

Rick Perry               -  15%

Mitt Romney           -  14%

Rick Santorum       -  10.4%

Ron Paul                 - 10.39%

Newt Gingrich         -  8.43%

Jon Huntsman        -  2.26%

Michele Bachman   - 1.5%

In a state that seemingly no longer trusts Washington, it once again voted for a businessman. In the Florida Straw Poll, Herman Cain wowed the electorate with his accomplishments in business and his vision for this country. Florida showed the country, once again, it no longer cares for politicians and given the chance it will vote for an political outsider. Florida Straw Poll voters also showed that color does not matter.

Governor Rick Scott was on hand to address the GOP Straw Poll Voters from each of the 67 counties in Florida. Scott, a successful self made businessman, who had never held a political office before being elected the Governor of Florida, told stories about his hardscrabble upbringing. He expressed the importance of the delegates being there and the importance of their activism and their vote.

In the roll call vote where each delegate's vote was counted and announced, Florida decided it no longer cared about how long you served your state, or the experience you gained in being a political insider in Washington. It came down to your ability to be a success in business and the number of jobs you created. Herman Cain fit the bill.

In Atlanta, he hosts "The Herman Cain Show" 5 nights a week and is the winner of the Horitio Alger Award.  He spoke at the Hillsborough County Republican Club's Summer Dinner Series. Senator Lemieux at HCRP Dinner

Tampa - Last night Senator LeMieux was the guest speaker at the Hillsborough County Republican Party's Summer Dinner Series. We got to meet the Senator and, more importantly, got to hear his impressive ideas and vision for the future of Florida.
