Vanessa Bryant posts emotional congrats to Lakers: ‘Wish Kobe and Gigi were here to see this’

Vanessa Bryant posted an emotional message congratulating the Los Angeles Lakers following the franchise’s 17th NBA championship on Sunday.

The widow of the late Kobe Bryant is close to general manager Rob Pelinka, who was Kobe’s agent and best friend. The last time the Lakers held up the Larry O’Brien Trophy, Bryant was at the center of the coronation in 2010.

Vanessa directed her message to Pelinka on an Instagram story in her private account, quoting Bryant’s advice to the Lakers’ GM on the path to a championship ring.

“Kobe was right RP! ‘Stay the course — blockout the noise’ Wish Kobe and Gigi were here to see this,” she wrote, adding a heart emoji.

Bryant predicted that Pelinka would help turn around the franchise within two to three years of hiring him in 2017.

“I guess you were right, man,” Pelinka told reporters as he stared up above. “You give me the energy to do it.”

Bryant, along with his daughter Gianna and seven others, was killed in a January helicopter crash. The NBA has commemorated Bryant’s legacy throughout the 2019-20 season, and the Lakers closed every huddle with a “Mamba” chant to honor Bryant’s signature mentality in how he tried to strive for living life at the fullest.

Finals MVP LeBron James and All-Star teammate Anthony Davis have credited Bryant’s spirit and legacy for being a driving force to this year’s NBA title. Los Angeles defeated the Miami Heat in Game 6, 106-93, to clinch the championship – James’ fourth, putting him one behind Bryant’s five titles
