Stephen Moore points out in his opt-ed piece for the Wall Street Journal a depressing statistic. There are twice as many Americans that work for government than for manufacturing. A non-producing government job in American today is the job of choice. It’s the job our kids strive for and are educated for.
In 1950 more was produced with an 8th grade education than with a college degree in 2010. A job in government promises higher wages, better benefits including extensive insurance coverage and lavish retirement plans, in some cases 80% of salaries. The government now provides loans for education that insures you can work for government and your debt is forgiven after you obtain your government job.
