As Americans, we take freedom for granted because we’ve always had it.  That’s why it’s important for us to hear from those who have lived in places where freedom doesn’t exist.”I was 17 years old when I spoke out publicly against the corrupt regime of Fulgencio Batista,” said Rafael Cruz, who was born in Cuba.  As a result of his opposition to the brutal tactics being used against his people, he became a recipient of that brutality.  Rafael was arrested, thrown in a cell, and repeatedly beaten by prison guards.
